Year 2000 arrives but Millennium Bug fails to show

The new millennium has arrived (arguable) and we have emerged unscathed from the dreaded 1999/2000 rollover, ready for business as usual.

Our Y2K project highlighted the few problems that we were facing, all of which we successfully fixed in advance of any disruption to either our internal systems or to our customers and suppliers.

Thank you all for your assistance with our Y2K Programme and we wish you all a prosperous 2000 and beyond.

Thermo Vision Acquires Optovac Salt Crystal Line

Earlier this year Thermo Vision Corporation, a public subsidiary of Thermo Instrument Systems, acquired the infrared salt crystal manufacturing capability of Optovac Ltd., a division of EM Industries of North Brookfield, MA. Thermo Vision will transfer the crystal growth and processing equipment along with the inventory to it's Hilger Crystals Ltd. subsidiary in Margate, UK.

Hilger Crystals currently manufactures salt crystals for infrared applications such as beamsplitters, laser protection windows, and IR cell windows. It is also a leading manufacturer of scintillation detector materials which convert X-Rays and gamma rays into light photons that can be collected by optical detectors for use in medical imaging systems, X-Ray baggage screening equipment, radiation protection devices, and industrial inspection tools.

Jim Telfer, Managing Director of Hilger Crystals, explained that the move would expand it's capabilities, customer base, and market presence, especially in the USA.
